Nexus Letters

  • A nexus letter establishes a clinical connection between a diagnosis and a specific cause — such as military service or an accident. Health Psychology Associates provides professionally written, evidence-based nexus letters that are thorough, well-reasoned, and built to withstand scrutiny.

We work with veterans seeking VA service connection. Our letters include diagnostic impressions, etiology rationale, and clinical history — all tied to peer-reviewed literature and DSM standards.

  • Some states require a comprehensive psychological evaluation as part of the application process for a firearm carry permit, security clearance, or law enforcement-related position. Health Psychology Associates provides objective, evidence-based psychological evaluations using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and other clinically appropriate assessment measures to determine psychological fitness in accordance with applicable state or agency requirements.

Our evaluations include a brief clinical interview, psychological testing, interpretation of results, and a professionally written report summarizing diagnostic impressions, personality functioning, risk factors, and recommendations when appropriate.

  • A well-conducted bariatric evaluation identifies psychological factors that could affect surgical outcomes, ensures candidates understand the demands of post-surgical life, and supports the surgical team in delivering coordinated, patient-centered care.

We conduct thorough, timely pre-surgical psychological evaluations for bariatric surgery candidates. Our evaluations are structured to meet the requirements of MBSAQIP-accredited programs and include a clinical interview, validated screening instruments, and a comprehensive report delivered to the referring team.

We approach bariatric candidates with respect and sensitivity — recognizing that they arrive having often faced significant stigma, and that the evaluation process should be supportive, not adversarial.

Pricing 200 per assessment without insurance.

  • Research consistently shows that psychological factors significantly influence SCS outcomes, making a thorough evaluation both clinically and ethically important.

We conduct pre-SCS psychological evaluations that go beyond screening. We assess the full psychological picture — including mood, pain catastrophizing, coping style, somatization, substance use, and realistic expectations — and provide referring physicians with a nuanced, actionable report.

Our evaluations are grounded in the literature and designed to support the treatment team’s decision-making, not simply to clear or deny candidates.

At Health Psychology Associates, our brief therapy approach draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and health psychology principles. We work with individuals managing chronic illness, adjusting to medical diagnoses, experiencing health anxiety, or navigating significant life stress.

Sessions are focused, collaborative, and built around your goals. Most clients complete brief therapy in 6–12 visits.

Pricing 100 per 30min without insurance.

Our approach is collaborative, data-informed, and grounded in evidence-based behavioral medicine.
